A Statement from Archbishop Aymond on the McCarrick Report

The situation regarding the crimes, scandal, and subsequent laicization of Mr. Theodore McCarrick continues to be a dark and tragic story for his victims as well as the Catholic Church. It is clear that Pope Francis’ decision to remove Mr. McCarrick from the clerical state was a responsible action and justified. This tragedy reminds us that sexual abuse is a serious sin that we must continue to address in the church and in society. I join with US Bishops around the country in thanking the Vatican for a thorough investigation and report. It is my prayer that this sad situation will call us all to continue to work for the healing of victims and their families.
